How to turn a list on a website into a CSV
Updated 5 November 2026
Most data on the web isn't in tables. Shop results, business directories, job boards, real-estate listings and search results are cards: repeated boxes, each with a name, a price, a rating and a link. That's why copying them into a spreadsheet gives you one long, messy column.
Why the usual tricks fail
- Copy and paste flattens each card into several lines, so the fields don't line up in columns.
- Google Sheets
IMPORTHTMLonly reads real tables and bulleted lists. - Google Sheets
IMPORTXMLcan read cards, but you have to write an XPath for each field, e.g.=IMPORTXML(url, "//div[@class='price']"), and it breaks when the site changes its layout. It also can't see pages that need a login or that load content with JavaScript.
The quick way: let an extension find the repeating cards
A list-scraper extension looks for the boxes that repeat on the page and turns each one into a row. With PluckTable:
- Open the page and scroll so the list is showing.
- Click the PluckTable icon. It outlines the list it found and shows a preview with named columns, such as title, price, rating, address and link.
- Wrong list? Click "Try another", or click one of the cards you want on the page.
- Tidy the columns. Rename, remove or move them left and right.
- Export to CSV or Excel, or copy straight into Google Sheets.
For results spread over several pages, or pages that load more as you scroll, PluckTable Pro follows the "Next" button or scrolls for you, with polite pauses between pages.
Tips for clean data
- Let the page finish loading before you click, so every card is filled in.
- Prices with a crossed-out old price come out as two columns ("price" and "old price") instead of one jumbled value.
- Contact buttons (Call, Email) on directory pages can be exported as phone and email columns.
- Sort and filter in your spreadsheet, not on the page; you'll get more rows per export.
Check the site's terms before copying data for anything beyond personal use. PluckTable stops at CAPTCHAs and doesn't get past logins or paywalls.
PluckTable is free for every row on the page, in CSV or Excel, and it sends nothing from your browser.
